Computer Generations

First-Generation Computing
-Developedin the early 1950s
-Involved massive computers using hundreds or thousand of vacuum tubes for their processing and memory circuity

Second-Generation Computing
-Developed during the late 1960s
-Used transistors and other solid-state, semiconducter devices that were wired to circuit boards in the computer.

Third-Generation Computing
-Developed in 1970s
-Used intergrated circuits in which thousand of transistors and other circuit elements are etched on tiny chip of silicon

Fourth-Generation Computing
-The computer technology of the 1980s and 1990s
-Relies on the use of LSI (Large Scale Intergration) and VLSI (Very Large Scale Intergration) technology that cram hundreds of thousands or millions of transistors and other cicuit elements on each chip

Fifth-Generation Computing
-21st century computing
-Continuous changing in computer technology hardware, software, data, and networking
